Nintendo launch Game Boy Micro PLUS First Images

Game Boy goes mini

NEWS: 17 May 2005 21:15 GMT by Stuart Miles

While the Revolution may have got all the heat, Nintendo's best kept secret and a shot from the left field was the announcement of a micro GameBoy.

The Game Boy Micro system is the smallest and sleekest Game Boy product that Nintendo has ever created and promises to fit into a pocket of a tight pair of jeans (is that a Game Boy Micro or are you just pleased to see me). Nintendo are promising measurements a mere 4 inches wide, 2 inches tall and 0.7 inches deep - the size of a mobile phone or iPod mini. It weighs an just 2.8 ounces.

The device will also promise a removable face plate that gives owners the option to buy replacements to customize the look of their systems again and again with new colors and designs, a 2in backlit screen, a built-in, rechargeable lithium-ion battery and supports standard headphones.

Nintendo are billing it as a secondment to the Game Boy advance rather than a successor.

More than 28 million units have sold in the United States, yet Game Boy Advance launched a full eight months after PlayStation 2.
