Sony exec spills details on PSP download service

Games and films coming via a Wi-Fi connection near you

NEWS: 5 September 2006 22:00 GMT by Stuart Miles

Sony’s head of platform development in Japan, Izumi Kawanishi, has revealed the first real details of Sony's PSP download service due to be available in November in time for the launch of the company's PlayStation 3 console.

According to the Kawanishi in an interview with Japanese newspaper NikkeiBP, the PSP will be able to play PSOne games via an emulator and gamers will be able to download games directly to the console via a wireless connection using the PSPs wireless capabilities.

Perhaps more surprising is the announcement that gamers will be able to download films as well as games via the new service.

Furthermore Kawanishi said that gamers and movie fans will also be available to access the service via their PC or PS3.

The service is expected to launch at the same time as the company's next generation console.

We will keep you posted.
