Videogame exhibit Game On to open at Science Museum in London

Kids can check out the games their parents played

NEWS: 18 September 2006 15:34 GMT by Amber Maitland

Gamers aren’t usually associated with art and museums, but an upcoming exhibition at the Science Museum in London may just lure them through the doors.

“Game On” will feature more than 120 games from as far back as the sixties for visitors to try out. It will also showcase the ten most influential games consoles of all time, including the PDP-1, which is the computer that ran the first videogame, Space War, and the first manufactured arcade game, Computer Space.

Young visitors will be able to try out classics like Pong, Asteroids, Space Invaders and Pac-Man, and learn about the science and technology behind gaming. The exhibit will also trace the cultural influence of videogames and how they’ve changed the social landscape for some people.

Game On was first launched at the Barbican in 2002, and has toured around the world since then. This exhibit marks a new run for it, and is sponsored by Nintendo. Tickets cost £8.50 for adults and £6.50 for concessions for the exhibition that runs between 21 October to 25 February.
