Bafta's top award goes to Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion left out in the cold

NEWS: 6 October 2006 11:15 GMT by Amber Maitland

The new BAFTA awards for videogames were held last night in London and recognised Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter as Game of the Year as well as for Technical Achievement.

It beat out Black, Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training and Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, amongst others, to take the top award.

The game of squidgy blobs, Loco Roco for PSP also took two awards, for Best Character (beating out both Han Solo and Lara Croft – no mean feat) and Best Children’s Title.

It did not, however, win the Innovation award, which did go to Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training.

Despite being up for four awards, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, failed to receive any recognition at all.

Shadow of the Colossus was another big winner, with awards for Artistic Achievement and Action and Adventure.

Best Strategy went to Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War; Best Screenplay went to Psychonauts, beating out 24: The Game, The Elder Scrolls, Ghost Recon, and Tomb Rader, while Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach took the prize for Best Multiplayer.

Other winners included Fight Night Round 3 for Best Sports game, Tomb Raider: Legend for Best Original Score, and 24: The Mobile Game for the Gamers’ Award voted for by readers of The Sun’s Something for the Weekend.
