Star Trek to get online universe

NEWS: 8 September 2004 10:12 GMT by Stuart Miles

Seeing the success of LucasArts and Sony Online's Star Wars Galaxies, it seems the next franchise to get the online gaming universe makeover will be Star Trek.

The chaps behind EA's Game's early efforts at online gaming are to create an online Star Trek universe based around, the original series, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, however no mention has been made about Voyager or Enterprise.

Perpetual Entertainment's Joe Keene and Chris McKibben have negotiated with Viacom, which owns the Star Trek computer franchise, to build the virtual universe for players to roam around.

The game will be an action adventure that will explore all aspects of the Star Trek universe from Tribbles to Klingons.
