Dawn raids and another person’s computer close pirate down

A Worcestershire man is today sitting behind bars thanks to information found on another criminal’s computer.
The raid, on the 9th, led Worcestershire Trading Standards, West Mercia Police and an ELSPA anti-piracy investigator to the house, computer equipment and large library of console games belonging to a 37-year-old man. He had been mostly copying Xbox first-person shoot‘em up Halo 2 and DVD films.
The pirate first came to ELSPA’s attention back in 2005 when his name and address were uncovered on the PC of another man who had been supplying him with copied games and films. His own adverts for copies were then seen on the Internet which led to a raid. However, he narrowly escaped arrest as he had just moved and closed down the offending site.
But, some people don’t learn and he was soon back in action, a new site found in late 2006.
Michael Rawlinson, managing director of ELSPA commented: “The replication of computer and video games software and any other multimedia product is illegal and has a negative impact on both local and national businesses. ELSPA would like to thank the efforts of Worcestershire Trading Standards in their attempts to protect legitimate local traders and remove illegal products from the marketplace”.
