Software sales continue to climb

Ubisoft and SCi post perfect profit

NEWS: 24 January 2007 14:30 GMT by Chris Ford

Two big players have announced huge increases in turnover thanks to sales of software going through the roof.

Both SCi and Ubisoft have posted sales figures which are making the third quarter of the financial year look very rosy indeed, and slowing console sales don’t seem to have put dampers on software at all.

SCi, with subsidiaries like Eidos, has announced that their sales figures have risen 40% for the first 6 months of the fiscal year, to £70 million (EUR 106m). Much of the credit can go to new IP Just Cause but distribution of third party games like Star Wars and Justice League Heroes also brought home the bacon.

Ubisoft can give thanks to the likes of the Tom Clancy franchise and new Wii title Red Steel with sales rising 24% to EUR 311 million to the third quarter, and expecting to add another EUR 152 million in the fourth.

Ubisoft’s market share has now reached an amazing 29.2% in Europe and 18% in the US on Wii software, and 14.6% in Europe and 13.4% in the US for Xbox 360 titles.
