Publishers welcome PS3 confirmation

Game’s teams get behind Sony’s announcement

NEWS: 29 January 2007 10:02 GMT by Chris Ford

After hearing Sony’s confirmation of a PS3 launch date, as reported here on Gamesdog, big name publishers haven’t been shy in showing strong support for the highly anticipated next-generation console.

"We at Vivendi Games are very excited to be a part of the launch plans, and also about bringing F.E.A.R to a fresh audience at the start of 2007", Adam Roberts, MD for Vivendi Northern Europe said, referring to Vivendi's PS3 launch title, and stating that the launch was good for the industry in general.

"We're equally enthusiastic about the prospects this new platform will bring to the UK market in the future."

Square Enix CEO John Yamamoto gave confirmation that the company has two Final Fantasy games for PS3.

"We are developing Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII using the full power of the PS 3 and hope to make them the best games we have ever released", he stated.

Ubisoft and Konami have also come in behind the console, with the former confirming four titles for launch on March 23rd; Blazing Angels, Enchanted Arms, Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Oblivion.

Although Konami has no titles for March 23 and has been hush hush about its plans for PS3, there is the exception of Metal Gear Solid 4. However, UK PR and marketing manager Jon Murphy has been quoted by saying that the publisher is will offer full support for all three next-gen platforms.
