Top Trumps goes virtual

School playground game comes of age

NEWS: 1 February 2007 10:19 GMT by Chris Ford

For those of you old enough to remember Top Trumps, the one-upmanship card game of a more innocent era, Ubisoft and Ironstone have announced their intentions to bring Top Trumps to the video gaming market this spring.

Scheduled for a March release the game is a version of the classic Top Trumps card-based game which gained popularity in the 1970s and 80s. It is a mixture of luck, strategy and knowing your stuff, and its popularity hasn’t waned with sales last year hitting £18 Million last year.

With this success the plan is to give gamers the chance to play on Nintendo DS, PS2 and PC formats.

Rob Cooper, UK managing director at Ubisoft, said "Top Trumps has wonderful brand heritage and is a mainstay in the toy sector. We're delighted to team up with Ironstone on this range and are looking-forward to strong sales".

Paul Gouge managing director at Ironstone commented, "Ubisoft are a major success story in the video game market and their track record and experience in this sector are key to maximising the success of our Top Trumps licensed video games. We're delighted to partner with them for this key launch".
