Xbox Live now with over 6 million users

Numbers have come a lot sooner than expected

NEWS: 7 March 2007 8:06 GMT by Chris Ford

Xbox Live has now got over 6 million members worldwide, and the Microsoft announcement shows that the service is growing more quickly than the company expected.

Last year Microsoft promised that it would double the number of subscribers to Xbox Live from three million to 6 million by the end of June 2007, and it looks like they’ve done it months ahead of schedule.

Reaching the 6 million mark isn’t the only remarkable statistic to be released by Microsoft ... while reaching that figure 2.3 billion hours have been spent playing on the service since its launch in 2002, and that’s without mentioning the 2,000,000 voice and text messages sent between users every day.

Halo 2 remains the most popular title on the service to date, after that Gears of War, and Hexic HD in third.
Microsoft have not, however, revealed the statistics on Gold and Silver services, the former being a subscription service and the latter free.
