GRAW2 in Hot Tamales with Mexican mayor

It’s a bad image for his city, the mayor complains

NEWS: 13 March 2007 9:26 GMT by Chris Ford

The mayor of the Mexican city featured in Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warrior 2 has hit out at the game for portraying his city in a bad light.

Hector Murguia Lardizabal not only complained of the violent image the game gives the border town of Juarez, but said that it encourages tension between Mexico and the US. If that wasn’t bad enough, he went on to say that the game was a criminal act against the intellectual capacity of the citizens of Juarez.

The game, set in both Juarez and El Paso, on the US side, sees American special forces fighting Mexican rebels a few years in the future.

It is not the first time that a Tom Clancy game has upset officials. The North Koreans didn’t much care for Ghost Recon 2 and the mayor of Las Vegas took a dislike to Rainbow Six Las Vegas, saying it could be economically damaging to his city.
