Acer looks to Ageia PhysX to power games machines

Available on the Acer Aspire E Desktop PC range

NEWS: 16 March 2007 22:22 GMT by Stuart Miles

Acer has announced that new models of the Acer Aspire E Desktop PC series will be equipped with AGEIA PhysX processing unit to provide a richer gaming experience for next generation gamers.

Acer will make the AGEIA PhysX processing unit – the first and only physics processor available today to enhance gameplay physics – available on the Aspire E700 and E571 Desktop PCs series. The PhysX card fits into a normal Aspire desktop expansion slot and empowers the PC to run new generation games that will show far more detail in the movement of objects in the games.

The Acer Aspire E700 and E571 series feature Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel Core 2 Quad processors and the choice of 2x 250GB or even 2x 500GB hard drives. The number of the Hard Disks may be increased up to 4, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10 technology on the E700 (RAID technology maximizes storage capacity and performance and protects data from hard disk failures).

Both systems are equipped with the Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS graphic controllers with 640MB dedicated DDR3 memory with support for Direct X10.

The Aspire E series comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium and a complete range of utility programs. These include Acer Empowering Technology, that comprises Acer eRecovery Management, Acer ePerformance Management, Acer eDataSecurity Management, Acer eMode Management, Adobe Reader, Cyberlink Power DVD, NTI CD-Maker and Norton AntiVirus that can be updated over the Internet.
