New Line takes rights for Gears of War movie

Cliffy B will step in as Executive Producer

NEWS: 21 March 2007 10:30 GMT by Chris Ford

New Line has endeared itself to Xbox 360 fans across the world by signing the rights to a film of the award-winning Gears of War from Epic Games.

The screenwriter has already been settled on, the honour going to Stuart Beattie, who wrote the screenplays of Collateral, with Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox, and Derailed, with Clive Owen, and Jennifer Aniston. It will be produced by Temple Hill, and reports say that lead designer Cliff Bleszinski (Cliffy B) will act as executive producer on the film.

Selling over 3 million units since launch last year, Gears of War is the fast-selling Xbox 360 title to date.
