Nintendo accused of holding back Wii stock

Gamestop exec says the lack is intentional

NEWS: 28 March 2007 10:45 GMT by Chris Ford

Dan DeMatteo, the Gamestop COO, has come out fighting and accused Nintendo of deliberately holding back Wii stock from stores in the US.

This all sounds very strange to the layman, unfamiliar with business ways, but DeMatteo commented stated that he believes this is the case because Nintendo has already reached its sales targets for the 2006 financial year, and is therefore holding back stock to boost Q1 performance for 2007.

"This is just my opinion. I think they intentionally dried up supply because they made their numbers for the year. Their new year starts April 1 and I think we're going to see supply flowing", he said.

To back this up DeMatteo revealed that his store is now receiving its stock allocation for April, and does not expect any problems in the future.

"Next week we get our first allocations of Wii and DS and we are quite pleased with those numbers. We are concerned about the dryness here in March, but it looks like April is going to be good", said DeMatteo.
