American stores begin to drop the 20GB PS3

More powerful model simply more popular, says Sony

NEWS: 11 April 2007 9:27 GMT by Chris Ford

It seems that several retail outlets across the US have decided to stop stocking the 20GB model of the PS3.

While the 60GB PS3 continues to be generally available, even the official Sony online retailer, SonyStyle, has cleared space on its virtual shelves.

SonyStyle now offers only the 60GB version, which also goes for Best Buy, Electronics Boutique and Gamestop.

SCEI spokesperson Satoshi Fukuoka said, "The line-up at SonyStyle is decided based on market demand and so it's not surprising that they are not selling it on their website. But if you go to a retailer you can find it".

The 20GB model isn’t available in Europe and regarding the possible launch of the less powerful PS3 a spokesperson said, "We'll continue to monitor demand for the 20GB model, from a consumer and retailer perspective, which will be factored into any future European launch plans".
