Downloadable PS1 titles coming to PS3

And a system upgrade for the PSP too

NEWS: 19 April 2007 14:01 GMT by Chris Ford

Fancy another bash at the original GTA or Gran Turismo? Well, soon PS3 owners are going to be able to buy PS1 titles by download.

The latest system upgrade for the PS3, out today, is going to give old timers and the curious young a chance to access old games, possibly as soon as April 26. And European gamers have already been given a nudge as there are prompts to download the upgrade when they turn on their systems now.

The place to go for the games will be the PS3 Store where a range of new versions of PS1 games can be downloaded for the PS3 or PSP. It is hoped that the service of PS1 games for the PSP, available in Japan and the US, will extend to Europe soon although no official word has been given.

Not to be outdone, the PSP now has the version 3.40 upgrade available, which gamers will need to switch too if they wish to take advantage of the emulated PS1 games, improve vibration functions in PS1 and PS2 peripherals, and permit PS1 saves to function on the PSP.
