Thompson and Take Two settle their differences

Take Two hopes this will be the end of the dispute

NEWS: 20 April 2007 10:21 GMT by Chris Ford

Take Two Interactive and the nuisance anti-gaming lawyer Jack Thompson have settled their on-going fight over violent videogames.

The agreement means that Thompson, who has threatened to sue the publisher over its violent games, will be limited on his future ability to restrict the sale of Take Two’s games, or sue over the sale of them. He can, however, still criticise the company all he wants and represent others who sue Take Two.

The agreement between the warring factions also means that Thompson has to direct his ire towards Take Two’s legal team or a designated individual, not the company directly.

For Take Two’s part, it is dropping the action against Thompson and it’s petition against him following Thompson’s criticism of the Judge in the case which could have seen him held in contempt and potentially disbarred.

The trouble started with Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt, and Thompson had tried to stop Canis Canem Edit (Bully) being released in his home state of Florida.

Take Two counter sued and Thompson responded gleefully promising to “destroy” Take Two with his clever legal machinations including, amazingly enough, allegations of witness tampering, extortion and obstruction of justice.
