LucasArts announces Fracture – a new next-gen IP

The buzz grows over the new title

NEWS: 3 May 2007 9:37 GMT by Chris Ford

Declaring that Fracture will serve a vital role in the growth of the company, LucasArts obviously expect big things from the new title, and given their pedigree, so should we.

The Star Wars publisher’s new game, Fracture, will be out next summer (08) on the PS3 and Xbox 360 and bring gamers a whole new set of trial and tribulation.

The action takes place in 2161 with the world having gone through ecological and seismological disasters, and that’s just the natural phenomena. Fracture introduces Terrain Deformation with weapons that re-shape the environment to your advantage, and your opponent’s disaster - Weapons such as the tectonic grenade, which blasts the earth, and there for you, upward reach new areas, the rocket launcher can be used to burrow under objects like walls.

"With Terrain Deformation leading the way, we know we're creating something special", says Day 1 president Denny Thorley, "and we have absolutely no doubts that LucasArts is the only company to make sure Fracture receives its due".

"LucasArts sees simulation-based gameplay as an essential component of a true next-gen experience", says Peter Hirschmann, vice president of product development.
