Microsoft is finally making a move against Xbox Live users who have set up accounts in regions other than their own in order to gain access to download unavailable elsewhere.

In a statement, Microsoft has threatened that territory controls would be enforced by "Spring Update" next week, May 7.

So, for example, if you are a European users who has set up an account in the States to get film or game demos which you can’t find here, then it’s curtains as of next week… make the most of it while you can.

The statement explains that Microsoft needs to comply with regulations and licensing agreements that set where content is to be made available.

"As a general policy we try to get global rights to content, but in some cases, it's not possible because of legal restrictions. In other instances, we have to get legal rights on a country-by-country basis, which unfortunately results with us having content on the service that has to be filtered based on geographical location."
