Microsoft have "absolutely no Blu-ray plans"

A day of confusion over Microsoft’s DVD commitment

NEWS: 17 May 2007 15:05 GMT by Chris Ford

It’s been a day of confusion over just what Microsoft plans to do in regards to its commitment in the DVD format wars, but finally official word has been given.

Earlier today this site reported the repeated possibility of a Blu-ray version of the 360, having already talked of the idea back in late March.

However, Microsoft, on its Gamerscore marketing blog, have made its position absolutely clear – it has no plans for a Blu-ray 360.

"We're fully committed to HD DVD and have absolutely no plans to support other optical formats", confirmed the blog.

"We firmly stand behind the HD DVD format as the best choice for consumers. Current reports indicating that Microsoft has a back-up plan which includes Blu-ray support are incorrect.”

In regards to reported comments by Peter Moore the blog had the following to say.

"Just want to clear up a few things surrounding several erroneous stories regarding alleged comments from Peter Moore about Xbox 360 supporting Blu-ray. Simply put ... These reports are completely incorrect."
