It seems that sales of the PS3 in the PAL territories, Europe and Australia, have reached the one million mark in record time.

The magic mark was reached in nine and a half weeks, which puts sales for the Sony next-Gen as quicker than for both the PS and PS2

Japan has been a different story, however, with the console having been on the market for longer – November 2006 – though yet to reach the million mark with just 910,737 units sold.

Sony CEO Howard Stringer had earlier commented, "We came into the [European market] with more games, and perhaps we lived up to the expectations in Europe in a way that perhaps we didn't in Japan."

The U.S has given Sony 1.3 million sales so far.

As far as games go Resistance: Fall of Man has sold 600,000 units in Europe meaning that around two thirds of all PS3 owners also have a copy of the FPS.
