With Manhunt 2 being banned in the UK and given an AO rating in the States, Ireland has followed the BBFC’s decision in banning the game outright.

The Irish Film Censor's Offices made their decision on June 18 citing sections of the Video Recording Act 1989 which cover gross violence.

"IFCO recognises that in certain films, DVDs and video games, strong graphic violence may be a justifiable element within the overall context of the work," the organisation stated.

"However, in the case of Manhunt 2, IFCO believes that there is no such context, and the level of gross, unrelenting and gratuitous violence is unacceptable."

Speaking to the Associated Press, Rockstar spokesperson Rodney Walker said, "We're going to look at this on a country-by-country basis, but this game is really important to us."
