PSP Firmware update unlocks CPU

Sony confirms that the full power can now be accessed

NEWS: 25 June 2007 10:18 GMT by Chris Ford

Sony has announced that the latest Firmware update for the PSP will scrap the software restriction capping the CPU speed.

Update 3.5 essentially gives gamers access to the full 333MHz, whereas previously it was restricted to 266MHz.

The CPU was locked at the lower power (80%) to extend battery life.

He update will not affect any existing games but it will for those in development, and gamers will be able to run titles at a higher frame rate – though perhaps it would be better to keep their chargers handy!
