Nintendo announce Wii line-up at E3

New games, new controllers, new everything

Nintendo announced new offerings for Wii hoping that the new additions will allow it to win out this Christmas against the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

“We’re producing hit after hit after hit, supported by a long line of third-party publishers who have shifted their resources to help make Wii the most distinctive video game system in history," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.

Aside from announcing Wii Fit a balance board that encourages active gameplay. The games makers is also promising a new version of Mario Kart, due in early 2008, that features new vehicles and lets players near and far compete using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection as well as the Wii Wheel, a steering wheel housing for the Wii Remote that brings new controls and challenges for veteran gamers, while making getting into a race easy and intuitive for newcomers.

Other games of note include: Super Mario Galaxy: The latest Mario adventure from video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto due 12 November, as well as Super Smash Bros. Brawl with new characters, new moves and new arenas out on the 3 December.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the final chapter of the Metroid Prime trilogy and will let players use the Wii Remote as an arm cannon. It launches 27 August.

Other Nintendo titles launching this year for Wii include Mario Strikers Charged (July 30), Donkey Kong Barrel Blast (Oct. 8), Battalion Wars 2 (Oct. 29), Endless Ocean (Oct. 29) and Fire Emblem (Nov. 5).

Nintendo are also promising to launch a new free channel that builds on the huge phenomenon of Wii owners creating fun caricatures of themselves, their friends and celebrities.
