Agree to Club Nintendo privacy terms or lose Star points, says Nintendo

European users are given a second ultimatum

NEWS: 13 July 2007 10:01 GMT by Chris Ford

Talking tough Nintendo has said that European Nintendo Club users must agree to new privacy terms or face losing all their Star points.

Fans have got until July 15 to agree to Nintendo being able "to gather information about your online activities on our web site and with Nintendo’s products."

Nintendo has stated that the ultimatum was necessary saying, "To allow us to implement additional features on our website, to improve our products and to adapt them to our users’ needs and preferences."

Fans, however, have found the warnings a little on the bullying side and an email sent out on June 29, and again yesterday carried the threat of losing Star points, or membership deactivation.

As the email read, "If you choose to DECLINE our new Privacy Policy , you will from [July 15] onwards no longer be able to use your Stars in the Stars Catalogue, as we will be forced to deactivate your Nintendo membership."

There was a carrot with the stick, however, as the small print reveals that by linking the Wii Shop Channel account to the Club Nintendo account, users will be able to swap Stars for Wii Points online, Virtual Console games purchased, and be able to check statistics from Wii games with online functionality.
