Continuing a trend that started with the advent of the PS3, Sony’s games division has reported operating losses of £120 million/29.2 billion Yen for the first quarter of this financial year.

The losses are over twice those of this period last year, with 710,000 consoles shipped, but Sony as a whole has been doing well with the corporation’s profits doubling in the same timeframe.

Sales of things like digital cameras have helped Sony, as has the falling rate of the Yen against the dollar, which has produced net earnings of £269 million/66.5 billion Yen up from 32.3 billion Yen in the same first quarter period last year.
