It’s little surprise for most gamers to hear that the upcoming FPS Halo 3 has become the fastest selling pre-ordered game in history.

Sales for the third outing of the hit series has passed the 1 million milestone in the US with a little over 6 weeks to launch.

The game has been publicized to unprecedented degrees with tie-ins that rival many Hollywood blockbusters - 7-Eleven, Burger King, Comcast, Mountain Dew and Pontiac have all jumped on the Halo 3 bandwagon.

Despite there being three versions of Halo 3, the Standard Edition, Limited Edition and the ultra-collectible Legendary Edition, demand has been so strong for the Legendary Edition of the game that it is expected to be sold out by the time the game launches on September 25.

Additionally, the special edition Halo 3 Xbox has gone on pre-order today for $399.99 to ship on September 16.
