ELSPA joins call for British government action

The association agrees with Eidos that games industry is “not being taken seriously”

NEWS: 13 August 2007 9:40 GMT by Chris Ford

Last week saw Eidos lashing out at the British Government, saying that the gaming industry wasn’t getting the support it needed or deserved, and now The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA) has joined in the fight.

ELSPA’s director general Paul Jackson has spoken out, backing Eidos’ Jane Cavanagh when she said that the industry is “not being taken seriously” and that developers haven't been given enough incentive to open studios in Britain.

Jackson hasn’t wasted time simply on empty words and has been talking with representatives from the new Brown Government saying, “Our impression is that the Government understands that there is a serious problem here and we have been invited back to discuss the issue further".

“However we are wary that historically Government has never really given us the support we require when compared with other industries in our sector. It is therefore is up to this new administration to reverse the failings of the past and fully support the games industry at this difficult time."
