PSP may lose power with wireless play

Beyond3D report says Sony’s handheld loses up to 33% of power

NEWS: 13 August 2007 12:46 GMT by Chris Ford

A report published recently on Beyond3D suggests that the PSP may lose up to a third of its processing power when the Wi-Fi adapter is enabled.

Beyond3D carried out the tests using the clock control function with Firmware 3.5. The update allows the clock to run at its full 333MHz frequency according to the trials.

However, the report then goes on to say that the speed drops to 222 MHz when the wireless adapter was enabled.

If the tests are accurate, gamers who play multiplayer titles will suffer accordingly, with slower processing, while single player gaming does not.

So far there has been no word from Sony.
