Microsoft bring forth XNA 2.0

2.0 will merge amateur and professional applications

NEWS: 14 August 2007 9:39 GMT by Chris Ford

Microsoft has been busy tidying up its organisation and in the process has announced that its planned various XNA Game Studio branches will be brought under one roof, XNA 2.0.

Microsoft formerly had plans to run the studio in two sections, the professional and amateur sides, but under the new plan Microsoft hopes to give everyone access to the same facilities.

So, for example, XNA developers will have access to extra plugin libraries, and with access to Xbox LIVE through XNA 2.0 there’ll also be support for matchmaking and voice-chat.

"We made the decision to make one Game Studio. We think everyone should have access to the same tool", said XNA general manager Chris Satchell.

"There should be no friction as you move from accessible development to professional development."
