Manhunt 2 to be released uncut in Netherlands... if Rockstars wants to

Dutch government has no powers to stop the game

NEWS: 30 August 2007 16:33 GMT by Chris Ford

There’s been a glimmer of hope for Rockstar and gamers who want to get hold of an uncut copy of Manhunt 2 as it seems a loophole in Dutch law means that the Netherlands will see the game’s release, but only if Rockstar decide to.

As it stands, a ban would be in conflict with current Dutch law, though it would be possible to prosecute retailer who sell the game to under 16s.

In a letter to Parliament, Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin wrote,‘The current law is based on the principle that every adult is considered capable of deciding for himself which games he wants to play, unless it contains illegal material.’

He went on to say that letting children play the game would be up to parents or guardians, and also said that his ministry would now be looking into if new laws would be needed ‘to better protect the youth’.
