The uproar over the use of Manchester cathedral in Resistance: Fall of Man seems like an age ago but the scandal has reared its ugly head once more as the gaming industry enters the awards season.

The game is up for a BAFTA but the Church of England wants the academy to drop Sony’s title due to the offence caused last June by the inclusion of the cathedral in one of the levels.

The Dean of Manchester Cathedral, the Very Rev Rogers Govender, has spoken of how he has had to “plead” to have the game removed.

"There was disgust at the virtual desecration of Manchester Cathedral. I plead with BAFTA to send a signal to the industry and to Sony and withdraw Resistance: Fall of Man from the nominations," he was reported as saying in the Guardian.

A spokesperson went on to say, “We had to resort to legal advice to get Sony to a meeting and the row... helped sales. The game has been nominated because of how well it's done in the charts. This nomination is like rubbing salt in the wounds"
