The 40GB PS3 is more energy efficient, says the Germans

Reports say less heat and noise mean less energy used

NEWS: 31 October 2007 9:50 GMT by Chris Ford

In a world increasingly after greater energy efficiency perhaps the big gaming companies have their parts to play too, and now a German site is saying that the new 40GB PS3 will use less energy.

computerbase.de writes that by using a 65nm version of the Cell processor the system's power usage is reduced.

As the new system gets rid of the PS2's Emotion Engine and graphics synthesizer chips and uses two instead of four USB ports, there is less to power. In turn it should therefore not create as much heat and noise as earlier models, and the website goes on to say that the 40GB version has a smaller heat pipe and a new motherboard.
