Gauntlet coming to the Nintendo DS

Eidos remaking arcade classic

NEWS: 8 April 2008 11:25 GMT by Katie Scott

Eidos has revealed it is remaking arcade classic Gauntlet for DS.

It has handed over the task to Backbone Entertainment, which is best known for Age of Kings for the Nintendo DS.

Gauntlet is set in a fantasy-themed universe "where evil cloaks the world from the high clouds of Ascendia to the depths of the lava-ridden Abyss".

Players can choose from four heroes - Elf, Warrior, Wizard, and Valkyrie, each with their own strengths, weaknesses and special abilities.

"With Gauntlet we’ve revitalised all of the action and fun of the original 1980s arcade classic, whilst updating the visuals and gameplay for today’s DS gamer”, said Ray Livingston, Brand Manager at Eidos.

Gauntlet for the DS includes VoIP capabilities which means that players can interact with friends using the Nintendo DS microphone.

The game is also mooted to feature 40 maps across three realms as well as new multiplayer features including cooperative play and competitive multiplayer.

The game is expected to be released on 20 June.
