EA brings Fight Night to next-gen consoles

Mike Tyson makes a comeback in Round 4

NEWS: 8 May 2008 11:03 GMT by Verity Burns

Mike Tyson is back in the ring, and fighting against Muhammed Ali and some of the other great boxers in history thanks to EA Sports Fight Night Round 4.

Under development in EA Canada, Fight Night is making a comeback on next-gen consoles, featuring what EA describes as some of the best "in the ring" experience to date.

Kevin Wilkinson, executive producer of EA Sports said: "EA Sports Fight Night Round 3 was a platform defining game as the industry transitioned to next generation consoles. EA Sports Fight Night Round 4 will change how boxing games are played and measured in the future".

Fight Night Round 4 will feature a re-written gameplay engine to add a variety of fighting styles to emulate the greatest fighters of all time.

A new physics-based animation system will recreate true-to-life punch impacts, and give players vast options for punches, blocks and ring movement.

The new system also allows for missed punches, glancing punches, knockout blows and for the first time ever, rough and tumble inside fighting.

Fatigue, adrenaline, footwork and timing all come into play when beating your opponent, just as if it was the real thing. Luckily for you though, it isn't.

Expect to see Fight Night Round 4 released sometime in 2009 on Xbox 360 and PS3.
