Sony boss admits PSP needs more games

More and more are turning to DS

NEWS: 12 May 2008 17:47 GMT by Verity Burns

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves has admitted in a recent interview that the PSP is really lacking new games to keep consumers from straying over to competitor Nintendo DS.

Sony has continued to expand on the functionality of the PSP lately, branching out into such things as video chat software and Go! Explore, yet as a games console, the PSP is certainly not holding its part of the deal.

At the PlayStation Day press conference recently only two new PSP games were introduced in an hour and a half presentation.

"Hand on heart, would we like more PSP games? Yes, we would. We really would", said Reeves in an interview with GI.biz.

However, despite diminishing performance here, Japanese sales for the PSP have increased recently, with now over 1.5 million consoles sold.

The only problem this has caused is gamers who are sticking with the PSP over here are seeing games only being released in Japan, or having a long wait until they can get their hands on them

But Reeves remains positive, adding: "We've seen in the last six months that because of the success of the PSP in Japan many Japanese developers have got some absolutely phenomenal games. They're not Monster Hunter 2G or things like that, but they are in development and we'll see them over here".
