Video Games Live brings music and gaming together

Your favourite soundtracks played by an orchestra

NEWS: 14 May 2008 11:54 GMT by Verity Burns

Can't get enough of the soundtrack to your favourite games? Video Games Live is a world famous video games concert that features music from the biggest games of all time, all performed using classical instruments.

Held in Scotland for the first time ever, expect to hear music from favourites such as Mario, Zelda, Halo, Final Fantasy and Sonic performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and accompanied by exclusive video footage, synchronised lighting and interactive segments.

The event will be presented and conducted by Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall, two of the most well-known figures in video game soundtrack composition, whose work includes soundtracks to The Prince of Persia, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Spider-Man and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow.

And if you fancy going, don't just be turning up in jeans and t-shirt. Concert-goers are encouraged to don fancy dress of their favourite gaming character for a night of all-out gaming fun.

Simon Woods, chief executive of the RSNO, said: "Video Games Live is a breathtaking event both sonically and visually, and the power of the RSNO will really bring it to life".

"We are very pleased to bring this major production to Scotland for the first time. Symphonic music is pushing at its traditional boundaries and Video Games Live is a fascinating step on the journey, as well as being a phenomenally entertaining evening."

The concert will showcase music from some of the most recognisable video games of all time including nostalgic retro arcade classics from the 1970s and 80s.

Video Games Live is part of a three-concert festival called orchestra+ which will see the RSNO delve into the 21st century for inspiration and theme and will open the genre of classical music up to a whole new audience.

Tickets range between £19.50 and £32, with students and under 16s getting in for half price.
