EA acquires ThreeSF

Bought from Napster's founder Shawn Fanning

NEWS: 3 June 2008 20:38 GMT by Verity Burns

Electronic Arts has announced it has acquired ThreeSF and its Rupture Service, a social network for gamers.

ThreeSF is a San Francisco company founded by Shawn Fanning, best known as the founder of file-sharing services Napster and SnoCap.

Rupture gives gamers the opportunity to spread the word of their online accomplishments.

The LA Times has reported that a person close to the deal said EA had paid around $30m.

However, EA would not disclose any financial terms, merely saying it would release additional information about its plans for ThreeSF in the weeks ahead.
