Co-op for Call of Duty 5 confirmed

Flamethrowers are on the menu too

NEWS: 23 June 2008 19:18 GMT by Verity Burns

Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty 5 will feature an online co-op mode for up to four players.

Gamers playing on the Xbox 360, PS3 or PC versions will be able to get access to this feature, as well as the two-player split-screen co-op. Wii gamers on the other hand will have their own "unique" two-player co-op mode.

The press release states that the co-op campaign "allows players to rank up and unlock perks in competitive multiplayer by completing challenges and earning experience points".

What are experience points we hear you cry? Well, you can collect these whenever you're playing online, whether competitively or co-operatively. The game's difficulty level will then "scale dynamically" dependent on your experience rank and the ranks of the people you're playing with.

With battlegrounds in Europe and the South Pacific, you'll have the chance to play as a Russian soldier or US marine. It's even been confirmed you'll get to mess around with a flamethrower. Excellent.

Mark Lamia, studio head for Treyarch said: "We're excited to give players a host of new enemies that employ entirely new tactics, as well as new, groundbreaking tools – like co-op and the flamethrower – to succeed in the epic fight.

"We’re re-defining what it means to play a WWII game.”

Call of Duty: World of War is due for release in the autumn.
