Sega working on console real-time strategy game

Heading for 360 and PS3 next year

NEWS: 11 July 2008 12:48 GMT by Verity Burns

Sega has announced it is developing a real-time strategy console title for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game, called Stormrise, will see you taking charge and leading your troops from the front line - slightly different from the tradition detatched viewpoint of a lot of RTS games.

Stormrise also allows units to be commanded in the air, across rooftops and even underground - the idea of "verticality" introduces multiple layers of gameplay that you'll need to get the hand of to get ahead in the game.

Gary Knight, European marketing director, SEGA Europe said: "Stormrise has been built from the ground up specifically for high def consoles to provide a more intense, frenetic style of game that, coupled with the all new control mechanic, will revolutionise the way RTS games are played."

The game is set on a barren earth, devastated by a catastrophic event centuries ago. Two factions of people remain - the Echelon and the Sai, both very different tribes. Stormrise sees both battling to survive in the new environment as the animosity and hatred between the grows.

Stormrise is in development at The Creative Assembly's Australia studio and is thought to be ready for release sometime in 2009. Visit Sega's Stormrise website for more information.
