Resistance Retribution announced for PSP

Plus four more titles, included Buzz!

NEWS: 16 July 2008 20:43 GMT by Verity Burns

Sony announced its line-up for the PSP at its E3 press conference on Tuesday, including an appearance of Insomnicac's popular PS3 shooter Resistance on the handheld console.

The game, called Resistance Retribution, was announced after a pretty impressive demo for the new PS3 outing of the franchise, Resistance 2, wowed the E3 audience earlier in the presentation.

The game will bridge the gap between the two PS3 titles, set weeks after the end of Resistance: Fall of Man. You'll follow the story of former British Marine James Grayson though a third-player viewpoint, out on a mission to avenge the death of his brother and retake Europe from the Chimera (you know, the bad guys who want to turn the human race in aliens - the usual).

Several changes have been made to the game to make it suitable for the PSP, including an advanced third person targetting system designed specifically for the PSP and a liberal checkpoint system so you can play and save in small bursts if you're on the go.

There will also be the option for upto eight player multiplayer gameplay, with five game modes including Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Containment and Assimilation.

Other PSP titles announced included BUZZ! Master Quiz, an updated and portable version of the classic arcade game Super Stardust Portable and sequels to two of the most innovative platform action games to hit PSP; LocoRoco2 and Patapon2.

Speaking of the company's handheld, Sony's Jack Tretton said: "We've always said PSP was key to Sony owning the living room."

No release date for any of the titles has yet been announced.
