Thought-controlled games in shops this year?

Headset that reads your thoughts...

NEWS: 21 July 2008 15:15 GMT by Verity Burns

The world's first thought-controlled computer game could be launched by the end of the year.

A company in Australia is apparently developing a new headset that contains 16 sensors which measure electrical activity in the brain.

This would allow players to push and pull objects on a screen by just thinking about it.

No doubt a concept that will draw cynicism from the more hardened gamer, the company - Emotiv - claims the new headset will soon "replace joysticks and Wii handles".

Apparently pre-release tests show that the (get ready for it) electroencephalography process works.

Emotiv co-founders Allan Snyder, a neuroscientist and former Cambridge University research fellow, and Tan Le reckon the technology will take Wii gaming to the next level.

Tan Le said: "This is the tip of the iceberg. There will be a convergence of gesture-based technology and the brain as a new interface - the Holy Grail is the mind."
