Nintendo admits Wii storage is "mainstream problem"

Working on finding a solution

NEWS: 24 July 2008 13:05 GMT by Verity Burns

Nintendo has said it is "working to find a solution" to the storage issues for people who use Virtual Console and WiiWare, even acknowledging its not just the hardcore gamers that are struggling with space.

"We have a consumer base who loves Virtual Console. We have a user-base who really is enjoying WiiWare content. So for us really our challenge really is how do we satisfy all these consumers who are loving all of the product we make available on a download basis?" said Nintendo of America boss, Reggie Fils-Aime.

Fils-Aime said that new additions to the online offerings were "just making this challenge tougher and tougher".

He added: "In our view this is becoming much more of a mainstream problem, which is why we have a sense of urgency to solve it."

Currently, there is only 512MB of internal space to hold downloaded content, and after that users need to delete it or put it onto an SD card.

The console supports anything up to 2GB SD cards, but for the big spenders this is still not enough. WiiWare games are getting larger and the Virtual Console now holds over 200 games in Europe. It seems Nintendo better get to thinking quick.
