Phishing scam hits Xbox Live

If it's too good to be true - it usually is

NEWS: 5 August 2008 15:18 GMT by Verity Burns

A new phishing scam has hit Xbox Live, and is currently making its way into gamers inboxes via their friends lists.

The scam comes in the form of a message that appears to be from one of your friends. It urges you to log on to a website for free MS points.

It reads: "M2AF everybody go to loginxbox.tk I just got 1600 MS points Hurry though!! I think it is a limited time offer"

You can always tell a scam from bad grammar. Anyway, as you can imagine, the link leads to a bogus site that asks you to enter all your Xbox Live information. Once you do that, it will send the same message to everyone in your friends list to try and pull them in as well.

So if you get a similar message, supposedly from your friend, do the neighbourly thing and get them to change their XBL password sharpish, before the scammers get their grubby mitts on their profile to do with what they please...

Have a look at the images for a peek at what the message looks like.
