Activision set for PS2 release marathon

Good line-up up to Christmas, but no guarantees for 2009

NEWS: 29 August 2008 17:15 GMT by Verity Burns

Activision has seen fairly good success with its PS2 releases recently, with games such as Kung Fu Panda and LEGO Indiana Jones storming the charts this year.

So much so in fact that the developer is already working on PS2 versions of some of its other major releases this year, such as Quantum of Solace, Call of Duty: World at War and Spiderman: Web of Shadows. It's also publishing a whole host of kids games and LucasArts' Force Unleashed in the UK.

Talking of the reasons behind this list of PS2 releases, Activision’s UK MD Andrew Brown said: "The PlayStation 2 continues to sell around the world, and Activision's aim is to deliver its brands to consumers across the broadest number of platforms.

"Sony did an amazing job of extending the lifecycle of the PSOne and it is doing it again with the PS2. According to NPD, ChartTrack and GFK, there are more than 78 million PS2s in the market, making it by far the largest installed base of any console system to date."

Despite a strong release schedule for the PS2, Activision has refused to commit to anything in 2009 as yet.

Brown simply commented: "Activision will continue to support the PS2 so long as the platform is economically viable."

“Activision will continue to support the PS2 so long as the platform is economically viable,” he added.
