Sony’s reluctance to reduce the price on its PS3 console is allowing Microsoft the chance to dominate the market and steal some would-be PS3 buyers, according to an industry analyst.

Companies lower prices to boost sales and because production costs go down.
Sony's sales have been on boost since last christmas. They WILL sell more consoles this holiday. Maybe not as many as Xbox but they will sell. Just because the xbox is lower it does not mean that it's better.
Plus, the PS3 is still one of the best if not the best Blu Ray player out there. Until a blu ray player with 2.0 Profile is cheaper than the PS3 and only then will the price go down.
It makes no Financial Business since to lower the price at this point. Demand is still high, so why lower their projected earnings.
