Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer betas launched

Pre-order game or register online to get token

NEWS: 13 October 2008 18:14 GMT by Verity Burns

Activision and Treyarch have launched the multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: World at Ware on the Xbox 360.

Gamers fancying getting a taster of what the game has to offer before its release can guarantee themselves a token giving access to the beta by pre-ordering the game at UK Game stores or online.

Alternatively, Call of Duty fans that register to become members of the Call of Duty website are also eligible to receive a token, but these tokens are limited.

Those Call of Duty gamers waiting for a PC multiplayer can expect one soon - we'll keep you updated with anything we hear, and you can also keep checking the Call of Duty website for more information.

As for what players can expect from the betas, they will provide fans with an opportunity to play as U.S. Marines, German Wehrmacht, Japanese Imperial Army and Russian Red Army factions in a variety of game types, including Team Death Match, Free-For-All, Capture the Flag and War, across three different maps.

These maps are:

Castle: The Imperial Japanese Army faces off against the Marine Raiders in a daytime battle, located on the grounds of an ancient, Japanese castle.

Makin: The U.S. Marine Raiders square off against the Imperial Japanese Army in a nighttime fight, set in an outpost on the Makin Atoll in the Pacific.

Roundhouse: The Wehrmact will fight the Red Army to the bitter end in a daytime struggle that features tank and infantry combat, set in a desolate, war-torn European train depot.

Players will be able to enjoy the betas for the next few weeks, but will cease to work when the full game is released next month on 14th November.
