20 March 2007 - Mach might have a plane on the front, but those thinking this is going to be yet another flight sim will be disappointed. The game resembles wipeout more than it does Microsoft's flight sim making it an ideal 5 minute breakaway while sitting on the train.
Broken into four areas; Arcade, Career, Challenge and Multiplayer the aim of the game is to race around a number of courses or exchange dogfights with your opponents, be it computer or human.
In the races the gameplay plays out like PlayStation classic wipeout, only that you're in a plane rather than a spaceship attached to a course and as you fly around the rocky canyons in front of you, you get to pick up weapons such as mines and missles.
In attempt to make it a bit more interesting the lower you fly the faster you go, but as you might expect this comes with the danger of slamming into rocks a lot quicker.
But racing isn't the only element to Mach. Dogfights are an important part too and the game chops and changes between the two race modes. Dogfight mode interesting focuses around the same courses, but your remit here is to blast your opponents out of the sky as many times as possible in a set time very much like deathmatch mode on most first person shooters.

VERDICT
With five difficulty levels and more tracks available as you go, Mach does let you lose five minutes of your life with ease as you swoop in to blast another plane out of the sky, however the fun is short lived and the game lacks any real depth to it.
Like the game it clearly tries to model itself on, Mach is a short lived wonder, still while it lasts, it's good clean fun.
